The Interstate Medical Licensure Compact is an expedited pathway for qualified physicians, not a national license: you still receive and pay for a separate license from each state. As of August 2026 it spans 44 member states plus Washington, D.C. and Guam, and the IMLCC says roughly 80% of U.S. physicians meet its criteria.

The IMLCC charges a $700 application fee, plus each selected state’s license fee, currently from $35 to $895 depending on the board. In the IMLCC’s Year 9 study, qualification took an average of 38 days from application, and requested licenses followed in an average of 22 more.

Eligibility is strict: current board certification, clean licensure and criminal history, and every exam component passed in three attempts or fewer. Membership has gaps too: as of August 2026, California and New York are not compact members, so both take direct applications only.

Approve your application answers, e-sign attestations, sit any in-person fingerprint or identity appointments, and explain disclosures in your own words. The portal shows that short list; we do the rest.
Yes. FCVS is FSMB’s repository of primary-source-verified credentials, required by some boards and accepted by the rest, and we build and maintain your profile where it’s required or useful. Where a board uses FSMB’s Uniform Application, we prepare it the way we prepare any state form.
Yes. A disclosure usually rules out the compact route, because IMLC criteria require clean licensure and criminal history, so we plan direct applications instead. We assemble the record, draft the explanations with you, and handle the board’s follow-up questions. Boards decide outcomes; our job is a complete, well-presented file.
