The APRN Compact isn’t active yet.
Two compacts get mixed up constantly. The eNLC covers RNs and LPNs and is fully operational. The APRN Compact is the separate agreement that covers nurse practitioners, and it is not.
NCSBN adopted it in August 2020, and it cannot go live until 7 states enact it. As of mid-2026 only 4 have: Delaware, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah. Wyoming passed a 2016 version that has since been superseded, so its enactment does not count toward the seven.
So a compact RN license does not give you NP practice authority in another state. As an NP you still need an individual license in every state where you treat patients, which is what we build your plan around. No. It needs 7 states to enact it and only 4 have, so individual state licensure is still the path for every NP. The NP Compact explained has the current status and what would change if it activates.
Not as an NP. A multistate RN license under the eNLC carries RN practice in other compact states. NP practice authority is separate, and it takes an individual NP license in every state where you treat patients.
It depends on the state and how complete the file is. Boards decide issuance, and some publish no end-to-end processing window at all, so we won’t invent one. What we control is a complete application, a fast answer to every board request, and a portal that shows where each file stands.
